…من لا يرحم

عن جرير بن عبد الله رضي الله عنه قال, قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم

من لا يرحم الناس لا يرحمه الله

‘Whoever does not have mercy upon the people then Allaah does not have mercy upon him.’

When it comes to my provisions, I rely upon Allah, my Creator
And I know with certainty that He will no doubt provide for me.
Whatever’s in my due, will not pass me by,
Even if it were to be in the depths of the sea.
Allah the Exalted will bring it forth by His Grace,
Even if I were to remain silent over it.
So, what can a soul feel sorrow over,
When the Most Merciful has set the provisions of the creation?

– Imam ash-Shaafi’ee

“The servant..”

At-Tirmidhee and Ibn Maajah narrated that `Atiyah As-Sa`di said that the Messenger of Allah (sall`Allahu `alayhi wa sallam) said,

«لَا يَبْلُغُ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَالَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا مِمَّا بِهِ بَأْس»

“The servant will not acquire the status of the Muttaqeen until he abandons what is harmless out of fear of falling into that which is harmful.”

[At-Tirmidhee then said, “Hasan Ghareeb.”]

..the sweetest words [Ikhlas]

It is reported that the son of Al-Fudayl b. ‘Ayyâd – Allâh have mercy on him – said to his father:

Father! How sweet (beautiful) the speech of the Companions is! [Al-Fudayl] said, “Son, do you know why it was so sweet?” He replied, “No father, I do not.” He said, “Because they sought Allâh the Exalted when they spoke.”

Al-Bayhaqî, Shu’ab Al-îmân 2:299

From the Manners of a Wife with her Husband

It is reported that the wife of Imâm Sa’îd b. Al-Musayyib – Allâh have mercy on him – said:

“We only ever used to speak to our husbands like you address your commanders and leaders: [we would supplicate for them when talking to them] “May Allâh keep you right!”, “May Allâh keep you well!”

Abû Nu’aym, Hilyatu Al-Awliyâ` 5:198.

After the death of his wife Umm Sâlih, Imâm Ahmad – Allâh have mercy on them, used to praise her. He once said:

“In the thirty years she was with me, we never had a single word of disagreement.”

Al-Khatîb Al-Baghdâdî, Târîkh Baghdâd 16:626.

“We ask Allah for..”

Mu’awiyah ibn Qurrah reports that Abu Al-Darda` used to say,

“We ask Allah for a lasting faith (iman), true certainty and beneficial knowledge.”

Mu’awiyah ibn Qurrah then said,

“So this indicates that there is a type of faith that does not last, and a type of certainty that is not true, and a type of knowledge that is not beneficial.”

Ibn Battah, Al-Ibanah Al-Kubra Vol. 2 p498.

Have Mercy on the Afflicted

‘Eesa ibn Maryam (‘alayhi ssalaam) said:

“Do not look at the people’s faults as if you are lords, but look at your own faults as if you are slaves, because people are of two types: afflicted and pardoned. So have mercy on the afflicted and thank Allaah for pardoning you and protecting you from it.”
