Shahadah

Clarifying the five pillars of Islam, the first and greatest of which is to bear witness that Laa Ilaha Illallah wa Anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah (none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger), with explanation of their meanings, and the conditions of Laa Ilaha Illallah and its meaning: Laa Ilaha negates all that is worshipped other than Allah; Ilia Allah affirms that worship must be for Allah alone, Who has no partner, and these are the two pillars of the Shahadah الشهادة:

1) The first involves a negation by Laa Ilaaha, a statement that does away with all forms of Shirk and that necessitates disbelief in all that is worshipped other than Allaah Almighty.

2) The second involves an affirmation by Illallaah, wherein we affirm that only Allaah deserves to be worshipped.

As for the conditions of Laa Ilaha Illallah شروط لا إله إلا الله with proof, they are as follows:

1) Knowledge that negates ignorance

“So know that Lâ ilâha ill-allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh)” [Muhammad 47:19]

“Except for those who bear witness to the truth, and they know” [Az-Zukhruf 43:86]

2) Certainty which negates doubt

“And who believe in (the Qur’ân and the Sunnah) which has been sent down (revealed) to you and in that whivh we sent down before and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter.” [Al-Baqarah 2:4]

“Only those are the believers who have believed in Allâh and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not” [Al-Hujurat 49:15]

“It is only those who believe not in Allâh and the Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask your leave (to be exempted from Jihâd). So in their doubts they waver.” [ At-Tawbah 9:45]

3) Sincerity which negates Shirk

“And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allâh, and worship none but Him Alone” [Al-Bayinah 98:5]

4) Truth which negates denial

“O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds)” [At-Tawbah 9:119]

5) Love which negates hate

“And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allâh as rivals (to Allâh). They love them as they love Allâh. But those who believe, love Allâh more” [Al-Baqarah 2:165]

6) Submission which negates abandoning

“And turn in repentance to your Lord and submit to Him (in Islam)” [Az-Zumar 39:54]

“And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allâh, while he is a Muhsin (good¬doer) then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold” [Luqman 31:22]

“And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face (himself) to Allâh and he is a Muhsin (a good-doer)” [An-Nisaa 4:125]

“But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission.” [An-Nisaa 4:65]

7) Acceptance which negates rejection

“Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allâh and that which has been sent down to us..” [Al-Baqarah 2:136]

8 ) Disbelief in all that is worshipped other than Allah

“Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allaah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold.” [Al-Baqarah 2:256]

Clarifying the testimony Muhammadan Rasoolullah and what it includes: to believe what he informs, to obey what he commands, and to leave what he forbids. And we must worship Allah only in a way that He Almighty and His Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) legislated.
