Asalamu alykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuh
Al-Laamiyyah by shaykh al Islaam ibn Taymiyyaah Rahimahullaah

يا سَائِلي عَنْ مَذْهَبِي وعَقيدَتِي رُزِقَ الهُدى مَنْ لِلْهِدايةِ يَسْأَل
اسمَعْ كَلامَ مُحَقِّقٍ في قَـولـِه لا يَنْـثَني عَنـهُ ولا يَتَبَـدَّل
حُبُّ الصَّحابَةِ كُلُّهُمْ لي مَذْهَبٌ وَمَوَدَّةُ القُرْبى بِها أَتَوَسّــل
وَلِكُلِّهِمْ قَـدْرٌ وَفَضْلٌ سـاطِعٌ لكِنَّما الصِّديقُ مِنْهُمْ أَفْضَـل
وأُقِـرُّ بِالقُرآنِ ما جاءَتْ بِـهً آياتُـهُ فَهُوَ القَديـمُ المُنْـزَلُ
وجميعُ آياتِ الصِّفاتِ أُمِرُّهـا حَقـاً كما نَقَـلَ الطِّرازُ الأَوَّلُ
وأَرُدُّ عُقْبَتَـهـا إلى نُقَّالِهـا وأصونُها عـن كُلِّ ما يُتَخَيَّلُ
قُبْحاً لِمَنْ نَبَذَ الكِّتابَ وراءَهُ وإذا اسْتَدَلَّ يقولُ قالَ الأخطَلُ
والمؤمنون يَـرَوْنَ حقـاً ربَّهُمْ وإلى السَّمـاءِ بِغَيْرِ كَيْفٍ يَنْزِلُ
وأُقِرُ بالميـزانِ والحَوضِ الذي أَرجـو بأنِّي مِنْـهُ رَيّاً أَنْهَـلُ
وكذا الصِّراطُ يُمَدُّ فوقَ جَهَنَّمٍ فَمُوَحِّدٌ نَـاجٍ وآخَـرَ مُهْمِـلُ
والنَّارُ يَصْلاها الشَّقيُّ بِحِكْمَةٍ وكذا التَّقِيُّ إلى الجِنَانِ سَيَدْخُلُ
ولِكُلِّ حَيٍّ عاقـلٍ في قَبـرِهِ عَمَلٌ يُقارِنُـهُ هنـاك وَيُسْـأَلُ
هذا اعتقـادُ الشافِعيِّ ومالكٍ وأبي حنيفـةَ ثم أحـمدَ يَنْقِـلُ
فإِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ سبيلَهُمْ فَمُوَحِّـدٌ وإنِ ابْتَدَعْتَ فَما عَلَيْكَ مُعَـوَّلًًًً

As salaamu alaikum = peace be upon you
wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuh = and the mercy of Allaah and the blessings of Allaah
>wa alaikum as salaam = and upon you be peace

Jazaak allaahu khairan = May Allaah reward you
>wa iyyaakum = and may you also (plural)
>OR wa iyyaaki (you: feminine) OR wa iyyaak (you: masculine)

Alhamdulillaah = All praised is due to Allaah (known as tahmeedah)
>Yarhamuk Allaah = May Allaah have mercy on you
>>Yahdeekum Allaah wa yuslih baalakum = May Allaah guide you and set your affairs in order

Subhaan Allaah= Glory be to Allaah (known as tasbeeh)
Allaahu akbar = Allaah is the greatest (known as the takbeer)
ta’aala = the exalted
subhaana wa ta’aala = glorified and exalted (used after saying Allaah)

maa shaa’ Allaah = Allaah wills it (also used against evil eye)
inshaa’ Allaah = if Allaah wills it
feesabeelillaah = for the sake of Allaah

Baarak allaahu feekum = may Allaah bless you / increase you
Allaah yahdeena ilal haqq = May Allaah guide us to the truth.
(yahdeeki = you: feminine) (yahdeek = you: masculine)

shukran = thank you

emaan = faith
al haqq = the truth
deen = a way of life, religion
Shari’ah = (islamic) Law
bid’ah = innovation (in the shari’ah terms ‘A newly invented matter in the religion’)
naseeha = (beneficial) advice
taqwa = fear/piety
tawbah = sincere repentance
maghfirah = forgiveness
nafs = inner desires, ‘the lower self’
ruh = soul
Khayr = good/goodness

ummah = the “Muslim world”

taalib ul ilm = student of knowledge (male)
taalibaat ul ilm = student of knowledge (female)

Kufr = disbelief
kaffir = disbeliever
kuffar = disbelievers

akhy = brother
ikhwaan = brothers

ukhti = sister
akhawaat = sisters

zawj = husband
zawjat = wife

Tawheed = Islamic Monotheism (3 pillars of tawheed=Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah, Tawheed ar-ruboobiyyah, Tawheed al ‘asma wa as-sifaat [see below])
Shirk = Polytheism, associating anyone or anything with Allaah, his attributes or his rights (e.g. worship)

Madhab = School of religious thought in jurisprudence
Manhaj = methadology
Sabeel = way
riwaayah = narrations (usually of the prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam or of the salaf)

Ahlul-Athar = the people of Hadeeth
Ahlul-Hadeeth = the people of Hadeeth
Ahlul Riwaayah = the people of the narrations
‘Aqeedah = Faith, Belief, Creed

As-Salaf as-Saalih = The Righteous Predecessors, the early generation of the Righteous Muslims (which comprise of  the Companions of the rasool sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, those who saw the companions and those saw the people that saw the companions – the first 3 generations of Islaam as stated in a Authentic Hadeeth)

Salaf = Predecessors
Saalih = Righteous
Sahaaba = Companions (of the prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)
Taabi’een = Followers of the Prophet’s companions
Salafiyyah = it is the Adherence/methodology to the Glorious Qur’aan, the Authentic Sunnah upon the understanding of the As-Salaf as-Saalih(look above)
Salafi = An ascription of one who attaches himself to the methadology of Salafiyyah (which is the saved sect)
‘Atharee = An ascription of one who attaches himself to the Authentic Narrations
Sunnee= An ascription of one who attaches himself to the sunnah(way) of the messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam

Regarding the catogaries of Hadeeth:
Saheeh = Authentic/Correct/Sound
Hasan = Good
Da’eef = Weak
Mawdoo’ = Fabricated
Munkar = Evil/wrong – a hadeeth which is weak and contradicts AuthenticHadeeths

Da’wah = Islamic Preaching, Call to Islam
Fiqh = Islamic Jurisprudance
Fitan = sing.Fitnah Tribulations, Trials, Torments
Fuqahaa = sing.faqeeh Islamic Jurists
Ijmaa’ = Scholarly consensus
Ijtihaad = Individual reasoning based on Shari’ah

Jaahiliyyah = Pre-Islamic, non-Islamic, Ignorance
Mujtahid = A religious Scholar well versed in the Qur’an, Sunnah & Fiqh, and able to derive rulings from the original sources.
Murji’ = Member of a deviant group claiming that faith is in the heart only and does not include deeds!

Burhaan = Proof
Daleel = Proof
Hujjah = Proof

tawassul = ‘a means of seekinG’ (nearness to allaah e.g. soofies do tawassul of the grave -dead people – which is Shirk)
taqleed = Adhering to a madhab/Imaam (blind following)

tasfiyyah = purification
tazkiyyah = purification/to educate
tarbiyyah = cultivation
tanzih = elevate/purify

ra’i = opinion
‘Aql = ‘using your mind’ or ‘rationally thinking’
zindeeq = heretic
haqeeqah = real, in reality
dalaalah = misguidance
dhaahir = apparent, manifest
museebah = calamity

Regarding the names and Atrributes of Allaah:
ta’teel = an act of denying Allaah’s attributes
ta’weel = interpretation of any of Allaah’s attributes
tahreef = distorting the meaning of Allaah’ attributes or distorting the Qur’aan and sunnah
tashbeeh = to claim the Allaah’s attributes resemble the creation i.e. Hands
ta’weed = interpret
ta’teel = dismantle
tasjeem = resemble
tathbeet = affirm
nafi’ = negate

taqiyah = deception e.g. Nifaq -hypocrisy
tasdeeq = to affirm something is true and correct

Regarding the 3 catogaries of Tawheed:
1) Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah = The Oneness of Allaah in His Worship
2) Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah The Oneness of Allaah in His Lordship

3) Tawheed al-asmaa’ wa as-sifaat = The oneness of Allaah on his Names and Attributes
